The Role
We’re recruiting for a qualified and passionate Horticulturist to join the team at the iconic Tresco Abbey Garden on the Isles of Scilly – a truly unique subtropical garden unlike any other in the British Isles.
This hands-on role involves general outdoor cultivation duties, including watering, feeding, planting, training, pruning, lawn maintenance, strimming, and working at height when necessary.
You’ll use and maintain a range of horticultural machinery, ensure accurate labelling and record keeping, and uphold excellent health and safety practices.
A key part of the role is delivering consistently high horticultural and aesthetic standards, as well as engaging with the public, answering enquiries and occasionally leading guided tours.
You’ll also take part in wider estate duties across the island, attend staff meetings and training sessions, and work as part of an enthusiastic, hard-working team in a truly exceptional setting.

Our Ideal Candidate
- Must be qualified to RHS Level 2 or higher
- Must hold a valid full, clean driving licence
- PA1 / 6 Spraying certificate (desirable)
- Chainsaw ticket (desirable)
- Will be a natural problem solver
- Able to work both unsupervised and as part of a team
- Have good communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to manage flexible workloads at different times of the year
