Blockhouse Cottage

This light-filled, beach-front house is Tresco’s newest cottage, combining a stunning location with bright, spacious interiors, a KLAFS-designed spa, private yoga and Pilates studio, a separate annexe and a spacious private garden.

Grand and generous social spaces combine with cosy corners perfect for all seasons. Get together around the firepit as the summer sunset colours reflect across the ocean, or cosy in front of the Drawing Room fire as a winter storm flings salt spray against the window.

The partly reverse-level accommodation makes the most of the far-reaching views across the sea and countryside, perfectly reflected by the natural textures and earthen colour palette used by interior designer Tania Streeter.

Entering the welcoming hall, there's ample storage and a spacious utility room before a short flight of stairs up to the open-plan kitchen and dining space. Here, the vaulted ceiling, bespoke hand-crafted kitchen, Bertazzoni oven, Quooker taps, separate pantry and centrepiece pippy oak table make for a grand gathering space.

On a summer evening, spill out through the kitchen's dual-aspect floor-to-ceiling bifold doors into the gardens. In winter, enjoy the cosy corners and mesmerizing sea views in the drawing room, perfect for board games in front of the roaring fire or a movie on the 65" 4K TV with Sonos soundbar.

If its wellness you seek, you’ll discover a KLAFS-designed spa with a Marinace Verde Brazilian granite steam room and a sumptuous sauna with infrared seats, with privacy granted by a sliding screen designed by artist Holly Woodman. There’s also a private yoga and Pilates studio tucked away in the garden, complete with BASI Pilates machine, French doors and billowing curtains that grant an airy atmosphere for peaceful practice.

Soaking in the sea views on the first floor is the master bedroom with its four-poster bed, twin balconies with double-aspect sea views, minibar and Apple TV at the foot of the bed. The separate dressing room leads onto the ensuite bathroom with its steam shower and Verdigris Green Copper Boat Bath with uninterrupted ocean views.

Also on this floor is another bedroom, a joyous retreat with an ensuite bathroom featuring a rain shower over the bath, while the three remaining bedrooms are arrayed across the spacious ground floor.

The second master bedroom features a dressing room, bath and separate steam shower, as well as patio doors opening onto a terrace and the garden beyond. Of the other two bedrooms, one features a sunny reading room with patio doors to the garden and an ensuite bathroom with a rain shower over the bath. The other bedroom has an ensuite rain shower room.

Two younger guests can be accommodated in hideaway bunks in the cosy snug, which also makes the perfect retreat with its large TV, lavish corner sofa and shower room with a steam shower just across the corridor.

Along a winding path, a discreet annexe features a Super King bedroom, a bathroom with a shower over the bath, and an open-plan kitchen and living room, making it the perfect self-contained space for families, friends, or even older children.

Whether padding across the lawn for a morning sea swim, toasting the holiday around the firepit or gazing out at the mesmerising sea views, Blockhouse is defined by its perch atop the white sands and marram grass-crowned dunes of Green Porth.

Subtropical planting designed by Tresco’s Abbey Garden team provides a wonderful sense of space, all with the backdrop of the cottage, its walls hewn from local granite.

The front garden provides a plethora of perfect hideaways for sun-kissed breakfasts or lazy afternoons, as well as an elevated deck that’s just calling out for sundowners. Across the lawn, a yoga deck awaits sunrise salutations, while a firepit just yards from the dunes is perfect for charring marshmallows after a day on the beach below. Afterwards, rinse your feet in the outdoor heated footbaths or refresh under the outdoor rain shower.

If it’s al-fresco dining you seek, the suntrap rear of the cottage is the perfect spot, with its outdoor kitchen, bespoke built-in barbecue and a further firepit. Or wander straight from the spa to the tranquil courtyard garden, complete with a pergola and bordered with fruit trees.
