We're delighted to welcome our new Watersports partner, Hut 62, to Tresco, offering motorboats, sailing boats and dinghies, kayaks and paddleboards to hire from Ravensporth Beach.
Dan and Robyn Bennett and their team are no strangers to watersports hire on Scilly; their family has been hiring boats on the islands since 1962 - hence the name!
Over the winter of 2024, we invited island-based businesses to tender for watersports hire on Tresco, aiming to provide our guests with the highest-quality experience.
Dan and Robyn’s vision for a dynamic and welcoming watersports hub truly stood out, and we were thrilled to partner with them in spring 2025.
Introducing Hut 62 and The Bennett Family
For many, Dan, Robyn and their experienced team will need no introduction; they've been offering a service from Tresco for years and from Bryher for even longer.
The family's Scillonian story began in 1957 when Dan's late father, Keith, sailed to the islands in a self-built Shearwater catamaran. With little more than a makeshift shelter and a passion for boatbuilding, he established a workshop on Bryher, where he eventually built over 200 boats.
After Keith’s passing in 2002, his legacy continued through his son Dan, who has built over 30 boats. In 2007, Dan relocated the family boatyard to a purpose-built workshop 100 yards along the coastal path, where it now houses storage boats and the Hut 62 hire fleet.
Dan and Robyn, both born and raised in Scilly, made Bryher their family home, and with their three young sons - who are just as passionate about the water as they are - they continue to embrace and share the magic of island living.
At the heart of Hut 62's ethos are flexibility and exceptional customer service, adapting to the tides and weather to ensure an unforgettable day on the water. We're delighted to welcome them to Tresco!
What's On Offer
Start your day with a paddleboard session, set sail with the family before lunch, or even catch your own from the boat (fishing lines available to hire). Spend the afternoon kayaking along the coast to discover your own desert island; take a picnic, moor up and explore.
Hut 62 offers motorboats, sailing boats, dinghies, kayaks, and paddleboards to hire by the hour, day, or week.
With regular safety boat patrols and a team always on hand to assist, everyone can enjoy the water with confidence. No prior experience is needed (except for sailing boats), as thorough instruction on boat handling is provided, along with buoyancy aids and full safety gear.
Where can I hire from?
The team will be based at the top of the beach at Ravensporth, next to The Ruin Beach Café, and will be on the beach daily through July and August and by reservation throughout the rest of the season.
For those staying on the other side of the island, Hut 62 can also arrange for you to hire from Farm Beach, in front of the Flying Boat Café & Deli.
How to Book
The Hut 62 team will be at Ravensporth Beach daily throughout July and August. If the weather tempts you onto the water, feel free to drop by - but to guarantee your spot, we recommend booking in advance.
Outside peak season, hire is available by reservation only.
