The next chapter at Blockhouse

The word blockhouse has been heard murmured amidst many a conversation on Tresco over the past few years. The much loved spot - and the cottages that once stood overlooking Green Porth - had long been awaiting a new lease of life and that has finally come, in the form of Blockhouse Cottage.

Nestled beneath its iconic namesake and overlooking the silver sands of Green Porth, Blockhouse Cottage flaunts unbeatable views, romantic seclusion and indulgent inside-outside living.

This light-filled, beach-front house combines sand-between-the-toes luxury, direct beach access, vast gardens, endless inside-outside living spaces, intoxicating ocean views, a home spa, a yoga studio and a separate guest annexe.

It is a sight to behold and at long last it is here. For islanders and for loyal visitors alike, the project has been an exciting development and the first of its kind for the island.

Whilst it is luxurious, stylish and palatial, there is also a sense of the building's past wherever you tread. From the original cottage windows throughout the property, to the iconic chimneys that can be seen from far and wide, the rich history of the location and the old terraced cottages hangs in the air.

There are many tales about the role that this iconic spot has played in our island's history...

The cottages were originally built for the lighthouse keepers of Round Island lighthouse and the tale goes that the homes only had very small windows on the sea facing side because it was decided that the lighthouse keepers might have had enough of staring at the sea.

But the heritage of the place continues!

During the Civil War and the Battle of Tresco in 1651, the Blockhouse area was where the Royalists had their camp. Gazing out over the rocks in wait of an attack, it must have felt like the end of the world.

This part of the island is clearly very special and Blockhouse's new makeover is just one chapter of its rich and long history.
