The Five Islands School Stained Glass Glory Project
Primary pupils at The Five Islands School on the Isles of Scilly have been actively involved in an arts project learning about the history and stories behind the stained glass windows of the churches on St Marys, Tresco, St Agnes and St Martin's.
The pupils studied themes that reflected upon the stained glass images which depicted trust, compassion, forgiveness and loss, especially to those who put to sea to save the lives of others. In class, children studied the meaning behind the parables and with artist Tony Minnion, created screen printed images of their own experiences that reflected those themes. The images were then digitally compiled and banners professionally printed onto taffeta based around the size and shape of each islands church window.
The banners are currently on display at the Parish Church on St Marys, and will be displayed at Truro Cathedral from the 26th to 31st October 2013. After which, each banner will be on permanent display at each of the churches on Scilly.
