In November, we remember

Ahead of Remembrance Sunday, we are proud to have taken part in the carrying of the wreath today

Routes of Remembrance honours those who have fallen in conflict as well as those who have fallen as a result of injuries - both physical and mental - long after the guns have stopped.

In collaboration with many organisations, groups and military units, Routes of Remembrance connects communities across the globe to carry wreaths and tributes on poignant journeys, travelling by rail, road, sea and air, as part of plans to honour and remember those who have given their lives in service.

We were honoured to be involved today as a wreath was passed from Sergeant Al Jordan on St Mary's to Tresco Boats jetboat skipper Charlie Shuldham this morning. It traversed the waters to New Grimsby where CEO Nick Halliday met with islander Henry Birch and walked along the channel towards Cromwells castle. They laid the wreath at the foot of the memorial there that honours the secret Naval flotilla based in New Grimsby sound between 1942 and 43.

The wreath is made from shells from Mounts Bay and will honour the #RNLI200 event and the role of the RNLI in WW1 and WW2. As well as the role of the Merchant Navy and the Fishing fleet in times of war. Organised by the Veterans Charity, the wreath will make more visits to the other islands as well as the RNLI and fishing fleets before it goes back to the mainland for Remembrance Sunday.

We will be holding a remembrance Sunday service at St Nicholas' for anyone who would like to join. See posters around the island for details.
