From waste to wardrobe

If you pop into Lucy Tania, you might see some things you recognise; little parts of our iconic cottages that we all know and love are being given new life in new forms.

Each year, different cottages are updated and given a makeover which means we end up with soft furnishings that are no longer wanted. Whilst old scallop shell and floral designs were once thrown away, they are now making their way from waste to wardrobe thanks to Cecilia at Lemon Street Studio in Truro. Having had a background in luxury fashion, Cecilia saw there was a need for diverse waste product from businesses to become something new.

Working with various Cornish partners, Cecilia and her team make the most of everything a company might produce. Whilst we have furnishings to offer, other businesses offer up uniform, offcuts, samples and even coffee bean bags. One man's trash is certainly another man's treasure. Cecilia sees the life in everything and more often than not, the products created go back to the business they came from - either to be sold or even used by employees. For instance, she turned building company Cormac's high visibility uniform into company rucksacks.

Partners across Cornwall are regularly dropping off assorted fabric and material at Lemon Street Studio and the subsequent creations are wonderful. Companies are included - but not limited to! - Origin Coffee and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Moreover, the Lemon Street team decorated a Christmas faire for the Duchy that was made entirely from waste textiles.

We are delighted to now be one of Lemon Street Studio's partners and can't wait to see what our old Tresco fabrics become. Next time you're on Tresco, pop into our island boutique and take a look for yourself. You just might end up taking a piece of Tresco home... quite literally.
