Brambles be gone!
Thanks to fantastic volunteers, Tresco is looking beautiful
Last year, The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust worked with us to bring a team of wonderful volunteers to our shores and assist the land management team in keeping Tresco beautiful. Due to its success, we put together a similar opportunity this year, sourcing volunteers online and flying them over to spend a fortnight here.
Based in Hilltop and Townshill, the volunteers made a real difference. Predominantly, they were tasked with pulling up rhododendron seedlings to limit the spread of this incredibly invasive species, as well as clearing bramble and gorse to help preserve the heather.
The team were given a tour of the Abbey Garden as well as a talk from the wildlife trust about local environmental issues. It was a pleasure to have them and we are so grateful for the significant amount of work that they completed. The island is looking amazing.
