A New Look for The New Inn
This winter, The New Inn undergoes the most substantial renovation in its history, taking the much-loved heart of our traditional island inn as the inspiration...
The New Inn has long been the perfect base for exploring Tresco. This winter, the bedrooms and Pavilion get a fresh new look, echoing the character and charm that makes The New Inn the very heart of the island.
Every bedroom and bathroom will undergo a complete transformation, blending timeless nostalgia with modern comforts. Downstairs, the heart of the inn remains much the same, inspiring a fresh new look and feel for the Pavilion, where a cosy log-burning stove will provide the focal point for this cosy dining space.
We’re adding more dining capacity inside and out, extending food service throughout the day and into the evening, and a new outdoor grill will be perfect for those long summer evenings.
We've asked interior designer and friend of Tresco Tania Streeter to oversee every last detail - from the furniture to the fireplace. Tania is the design visionary behind the interiors at Seabreeze and Cobblers cottages and is also leading the upgrade of our cottage interiors over the next five years.
The New Inn reopens at midday on Wednesday 6th April 2022, following our renovation. From Thursday 7th April, we'll be open from 8am each day.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Each of the 16 bedrooms will retain its unique features and charm, but with new fabrics, furniture, and fixtures to blend our traditional island inn with modern comforts. Everything is getting a fresh contemporary feel, from bathrooms to beds, televisions to tea trays, even the all-important plumbing and electrics.
Tania’s team is crafting the wooden bedframes covered in a beautiful Fermoie fabric and topped with sumptuous Hypnos mattresses, handmade in Buckinghamshire, promising a great night’s sleep.
Bedside tables crafted by Alfred Newall – a Brother of The Art Workers' Guild – will be home to the beautiful vintage styling of Roberts Radios. USB charging points and plentiful sockets will mean no more scrabbling around to plug in your devices.
Across the room, large Smart TVs offer the opportunity to relax and unwind after a purposeful day of island exploration, while bespoke, handmade joinery provides ample storage for everything you need for your time on Tresco.
Tania has put real thought into making these rooms a cosy sanctuary, perfectly reflective of their island location. Hues of plum and bracken will beautifully accent turquoise tongue-and-groove panelling; the blinds a bespoke colourway produced especially for The New Inn by Wiltshire-based Fermoie.
Each bathroom will also be fully renovated, featuring new fixtures and fittings including luxurious walk-in rain showers, bountiful hot water, fluffy robes and bespoke tiling. The two finest rooms on the ground floor, larger and boasting their own terrace, will also feature baths. One of them – a stunning boat-shaped tub sitting on slate flooring – adds a real touch of luxury.
Tania's thought process is nostalgia with a modern twist and a harmonious balance of form and function. We can’t wait to see the results…
Drinking & Dining
The Driftwood Bar gets a lick of paint and some new fabrics, but apart from that, the much-loved heart of the pub remains much the same.
It’s in the Pavilion that we're changing things up, making it the perfect cosy dining experience for a special evening out, blending beautifully with the lower area of the main bar. Zinc-topped reclaimed tables, a warming log burner, and walls decorated with treasures from the Tresco archives uncovered by Lucy Dorrien-Smith and interior designer Tania Streeter.
Outside, a new terrace will sit beautifully alongside the existing beer garden – ideal for long and lazy summer evenings beneath the stars.
For those in need of refreshment, The New Inn will be the go-to place on Tresco at any time of day. From a nourishing breakfast to kick-start the day to indulgent morning cakes and pastries, long lunches, and afternoon bar bites to a hearty supper, The New Inn will make the perfect pit-stop, no matter the time of day.
Pub favourites such as our much-loved New Inn Burger and traditional Fish & Chips will be joined by the likes of a succulent Cornish Chateaubriand, half lobster with chilli and herb butter or freshly-caught whole local mackerel. In the summer months, we’ll fire up our new outdoor grill and cook over the coals, really bringing to life the flavours and aromas of the locally-sourced produce.
