2014 New Year Flower Count
Despite the blustery weather, the Abbey Gardens are blooming!
For one day at New Year, the gardeners put down their tools and picked up pen and paper to record the number of different plant species and varieties in flower. This year the total was a very healthy two hundred and fifty five, an increase of twenty on the previous year.
Curator Mike Nelhams said: " From Australian acacias to South African proteas, the gardens are full of remarkable flowers at the moment. It just shows that not only do we have the most exotic garden in the British Isles but also that the gardens are worth a visit any time of year...even in the depths of winter!"
