Wildlife Walks with Will Wagstaff

Explore the wild side of Tresco at a relaxed pace with Scilly's resident ornithologist and naturalist, Will Wagstaff

Fortnightly April - October 2025
Smith Square, 10:00 or 13:30
£10 per walk, payable by cash or card on the day

Tresco is abundant in its wonderful wild- and bird life, from tame Song Thrushes and House Sparrows, which nowadays have become rare in mainland habitats, to migrants stopping off to refuel during their long journey. It’s also a great place for botanists due to its many plant species.

Our nature walks are the perfect opportunity for a stroll around Tresco with expert guide Will Wagstaff, who will help nurture an appreciation that there are still some wild places in the world where one can relax and enjoy the moment.

Will offers walks at both 10:00 and 13:30 and he will be on Tresco throughout 2025. Dates to be confirmed soon.

Walks depart from Smith Square by the Island Office and cost £10 per walk or £18 for those wishing to join in both the morning and afternoon sessions.

Please pre-book your place through the Island Office, as spaces are limited. Payable by cash or card to Will directly on the day.

Please be aware that although you don’t cover more than approximately two miles per walk, it is a long period of time on your feet.

Your Guide: Will Wagstaff

Will, originally from South Wales, came to live on the Isles of Scilly in 1981 after many years of holidaying here.

He first started leading guided wildlife walks on Scilly in 1985. Since then, he has led tours to many parts of the world, including several destinations in southern Europe, North Africa, South America and most recently, Antarctica. The Falkland Islands are his most frequented destination. In 2001 he wrote the first guidebook to the Falklands: The Bradt Travel Guide.

Will spent eight years as Conservation Officer and guide for the Islands' Environmental Trust (now Wildlife Trust) before returning to full-time tour leading with his own business, Island Wildlife Tours.

Will was the bird recorder for the islands for 18 years and is currently the Honorary President and Chairman of the Isles of Scilly Bird Group.

Will now delights in sharing his love and knowledge of Scilly's natural history with hundreds of visitors each year.
