Scilly Swimrun Weekend
A long weekend of five exciting Swimrun adventures across the archipelago as part of the Ocean Scilly festival, bringing the spectacular sport of swimrun back to the islands.
Thursday 29th August - Sunday 1st September 2024 |
Following the incredible success of swimrun over recent years, Scilly 60 events brings this incredible sport back to the islands with a weekend of races for all abilities.
The weekend starts with a free Guided Swimrun session on Thursday 29th August – a fabulous, leisurely opportunity to experience what this sport is all about. The course will involve 3 swims and 5 runs, totalling about 600m of swimming and 5km of running, with plenty of chat and support along the way – definitely a social event, rather than a race, and a chance to ‘dip your toes in the water’ of Swimrun.
Friday 30th August sees the St Mary’s Full and Half Swimrun events take place – covering a full 16km circumnavigation of St Mary’s and an 8km south-western exploration respectively. These events are definitely more challenging – more than a walk in the park, but still achievable if you’re looking to take your first steps into the sport.
On Saturday 31st August, there’s a free Junior Swimrun perfect for all abilities and ages, with four separate routes for everyone from babes in arms (with a little help from parents!) to strong teens. This is always a highlight with the whole community coming together to support the younger generation.
Finally, the weekend rounds off with the main event – the Archipelago Swimrun – on Sunday 1st September. This all-day event isn’t for the faint-hearted, taking in 28km of trail running and 8km of swimming across many different islands, both inhabited and uninhabited.
