Row in a Gig
The Pilot Gig is a huge part of traditional Scillonian island life and throughout the season the rare opportunity for you to 'chance your arm' in a gig to raise funds for Tresco and Bryher Gig Club will arise!
Upcoming dates
Sunday 16th March, New Grimsby, 2-4pm |
To celebrate Scilly's connection with the ocean and the majestic Pilot Gig, try rowing in one of these traditional Scillonian boats.
Our friendly Tresco and Bryher Gig Club rowers will introduce you to their beautiful gigs, show you the basics of gig rowing, and take you for a paddle around the harbour and the safe waters between Tresco and Bryher.
You might row in the Czar - our most historic gig, built in 1879 and nicknamed 'the cut-throat gig' due to her unique design and speed - or one of our other beautiful vessels raced each week by the gig club.
No experience is necessary, and all are welcome, young and old, guests and islanders! Lifejackets will be available if required (essential for those under 16).
By rowing in a gig for a minimum donation of £5, you'll be helping our island gig club maintain these beautiful, historic vessels.
