Autumn Eats on the Island

Autumn on the islands is all about food, from September’s Taste of Scilly Festival celebrating all things delicious from across the archipelago, to our popular Taste of Tresco Break running throughout October. We’ve chosen our favourite autumnal eats to be savoured this season…

The New Inn

The best spot for escaping chilly autumn evenings – hunker down in a cosy booth or prop up the Driftwood Bar on a bar stool. For a hearty supper we love the slow cooked pork belly, tasty tender pork with crispy crackling, finished with roasted baby carrots and red wine jus. Or try the corn fed chicken, served with a generous helping of smoked mash and drizzled in rich chicken & mushroom sauce.

If you’re just making a pit-stop during an island-wide ramble, the smoked haddock, leek & sweetcorn chowder will warm you up. Team with a Hobbs House bread basket for ultimate comfort food.

The Ruin Beach Café

As autumn creeps in you can still enjoy the Ruin’s show-stopping sun terrace – you might just need an extra layer or two. It’s a great time of year for root veg so indulge in the savoury notes of a wood fired butternut squash and rosemary pizza – so moreish!

If you’re looking for something a bit different and slightly more virtuous, tuck into the warming spiced falafel cakes, combined with wood fired veg and grilled halloumi.

The Flying Boat

This season at the Flying Boat is all about big flavours to sink your teeth into. Start off with the sweet & sour pork belly, garnished with ginger purée and apple.

Satisfy your appetite with the Cornish beef cheek, served with truffle mash, shallots and turnip, or tuck into honey & five spice duck breast, finished off with blackberry jus. For something sweet, we love the rich, velvety dark chocolate & rum mousse – team with a glass of dessert wine for a little something special.

Indulge in all this with our Taste of Tresco Break – running throughout October, it includes four nights’ accommodation at either the New Inn or our Sea Garden Apartments. You’ll dine at each island eatery and choose your favourite to return to for the final night.
