Getting To Tresco From Outside Of Britain
If you would like to plan a trip to Tresco or Hell Bay on Bryher, starting your journey outside the United Kingdom, here are a few points that will help you.
The nearest large airport to the Isles of Scilly is Newquay in Cornwall. You can fly to Newquay from a number of cities in the UK, including London (Gatwick), Manchester and Edinburgh, as well as from Dublin, Cork and Dusseldorf (summer timetable only). The onward flight to the Isles of Scilly takes about 30 minutes and lands on St Mary's. From there a 10-20 minute boat trip will take you to Tresco or Bryher.
Advanced booking of flights to the island and accommodation are essential.
Alternatively the journey to Penzance from London Paddington station takes 5 hours by train - www.railtrack.co.uk, www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk with the quintessentially English countryside passing you by. There are scheduled bus transfers from Penzance train station to Land's End where Skybus flights (Monday to Saturday inclusive) take 15 minutes to fly to St Mary's, with onward taxi and boat transfers to Tresco.
